I am disappointed with the country I live in. A country where if you run your bus over a cyclist who has the right of way, you face a maximum jail term of 2 years (and a $10, 000 fine) but if you sticker public places and paint on roads, you face a maximum jail term of 3 years and caning.
I understand the need to punish vandals. I agree that sometimes there is a fine line between art and vandalism. I know that there is a need for some (self)censorship and respect for others who live in the same space – which in this case is totally iffy and obtuse because how offensive is this? But the fact that the maximum punishment for killing a 19-year old boy is milder than vandalism, is beyond me. Very disappointing. There’s something very wrong with our judiciary system, Singapore.
The final sentence has not been meted but it’s already caused a huge furor here. I hope that we have the sense to realise that if we only served the bus driver a 1 week sentence for killing the cyclist, our witty 25-year old sticker artist is to be treated accordingly. No caning, no 3-year jail term, please.

If you read the reports clearly, the charges are for vandalism. I don’t like opportunists who sneak these things in like that. The issue at hand is to make sure that she doesn’t get a punishment she doesn’t deserve.)

Especially since you studied Law in Uni, right? I mean, ok I get it. It’s public property. Seriously, isn’t a human life more valuable than a road or a traffic crossing button?
