IMG_9285Another of my bag lady looks. How comfy is it? VERY!!! I love being all warm and cosy when the air outside is FFRRRREEZING (at least to me). Layering is fun because you just pile on as many different things as possible to keep warm and the end result is like a rainbow vomited on you! YAY!

IMG_7953Today’s outfit is more about the accessories than anything else. I got this necklace in the mail a few days ago from my dear dear friend Ryddy (along with chopsticks, another pin and a lovely birthday card). And because I love it so much, I’m going to wear it for the next few days – it’s kitschy but it’s so versatile with my wardrobe!

My pals Little and his wife Joanne are in town visiting me and this is what I wore to show them around the Las Vegas Strip yesterday – bright and cheery but still sensible for lots of walking! What do you think of my 1st fat-shionista post with the new hair? It’s all shaved and buzzed like a boy’s at the back and I coloured it red myself to save money!

IMG_5959I guess the last 20 posts are probably good testament to the fact that imagination is key to maximising your wardrobe. How many times have you seen me wearing the same pair of shoes, the same jacket, the same pair of bottoms, the same top?

T and I share just 1 wardrobe. We take an equal amount of space with regards to apparel. I do have more accessories and bags but I don’t necessarily have a large winter collection since I came from the tropics. How I’ve been coping is just by layering when it gets colder.

I love switching things around and I don’t need everything to be matchy-matchy. Neither am I afraid of saying that I just don’t have the money to spend on expensive things. I’m okay with mixing and matching off-season bargains if I have to.

Will I shop differently if I have more disposable income – maybe, possibly? But my priorities right now is our nest egg and to be completely debt free before I’ll splurge on clothes, bags and shoes. You know, boring things like paying off our mortgage and servicing the car loan, also rebuilding our savings to a 6-month contingency level etc. We were wiped out when Max was stricken with cancer last year…

Anyway, the whole point of this blog is frivolity, so don’t take it too seriously and have fun with what you already own. (uhmm… and pay off your credit card debts monthly!)

Happy Independence Day, USA! I’ve been a Permanent Resident for less than a year and I’ve still got lots more to learn. For the first few months that I was here, I binge-watched trashy reality TV to T’s horror. I was proudly telling him that I was learning about his country and his culture. HAHA! BUT I did watch 2 seasons of a very interesting HISTORY Channel tv series called “How the States Got Their Shapes” and I really did learn a lot more about this country.

Did you know that
– Alaska is the easternmost and westernmost state of the USA?
– there are only 3 power grids in the USA? East, West and Texas!
– California grows about 80% of the country’s winter vegetables?
– West Virginia has the highest number of home owners and New York the lowest?
– Wisconsin had the country’s first boom trade in the 1700s? They exported skins and the most valuable being Beaver fur!
– Ohio wasn’t officially a state until President Eisenhower signed backdated papers to 1803, in 1953?
– Nevada has the lowest rainfall in the entire country? Drought alert for me! Eeeeks!

Anyway, maybe by next year, our household will be celebrating Independence Day complete with decor and a flag proudly flying (I blame my US-born and raised husband for not making the effort *koffkoff*)

So anyway what has my outfit got to do with the 4th of July? Nothing… I tried expressing what I felt was most significant about my move here but I don’t think it carried through. Hiking boots, lumberjack-esque shirt and my version of a pair of daisy dukes cut-off denim shorts. You get the idea right? Kinda, sorta…

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Dark grey RADIOHEAD tank top (that I got from their concert in Melbourne, Australia in 2012)

Outerwear: Red & blue plaid shirt from H&M L.O.G.G.

Accessories: Black distressed leather skinny belt from TOPSHOP

Bag: Grey oversized clutch with Lime Green and Black accents from Charles & Keith

Bottoms: Light blue cuffed denim shorts from OLD NAVY

Footwear: Women’s Fastpack Paceline Mid Hiking Boot from TIMBERLAND

I got this months ago but never got around to photographing myself wearing it. My dear dear friend Ryddy sent me a huge care package from Singapore with this dress he bought in the UK. It was my colour and kitschy and everything all at once – which made it difficult for me to style it. I didn’t want to be a 36-year old schoolgirl-wannabe and I definitely needed to be comfortable in it. So this is what went down…

IMG_4928

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Neon Pink and White striped dungaree dress from TOPSHOP

Top: Black sleeveless MARVIN THE MARTIAN cropped top from FOREVER21

Accessories: Black & grey mirrored acrylic necklace from THE BLACKGROUND (at Far East Plaza)

Footwear: Black BALI sandals from BIRKENSTOCK

I think I might wear this with my Timberland hiking boots for a different look next time. What do you think?

I put this on in a hurry 2 days ago when we had the sudden hankering for some noms at the Cheesecake Factory. T’s mum sent us an email to tell us that she was going to spend the birthday gift card we gave her on a low-calorie meal there with Grammy and it put the idea in our heads. So in 20 minutes, I grabbed an outfit and cleaned-up my face!

What I wore on Sunday:

Top: Orange frilly top with blue stars from TOPSHOP

Outerwear: Blue denim jacket from HIGH SIERRA

Accessories: Mint Green and silver multi-strand necklace from ACCESSORIZE

Bottom: Grey knit mini skirt from COTTON ON

Footwear: Black wedge pumps from ZIPIA

T’s step-mum gave me the denim jacket when we visited for Thanksgiving last year. I’d like to think it is from the 80s and has some cred but I don’t know for sure.

So anyway, the Cheesecake Factory does indeed have low-carb options – EVEN FOR VEGETARIANS! It is called the Skinnylicious menu and despite the fact that I hate amalgamated words like “bootylicious” or “retrolicious”, it is actually quite a good menu. While most items are “skinny”, it is only relative to their main menu. I’d definitely go back and order the same thing I did though. Between the 2 of us, we had a serving of Edamame, a Veggie Burger, Roasted Pear & Blue Cheese Flatbread and the Tiramisu Cheesecake (not diet-friendly but my husband convinces me that it’s a lot lower in calories than a Tiramisu). As you can tell, OMNOMNOMonsters struggle everyday but we always give ourselves breaks for trying. Will we ever be thin? Nope. Not a chance but who cares.
