My Stuff: Everyday Make-Up July 2013

20130714-111743.jpg

This is what I use on an average day for my make-up, no make-up look. Yeah it looks like I use a lot of stuff just to make myself look clean-faced with minimal make-up. It’s true. And under the cosmetics, I have my toner and sunblock too!

So this came up because my pal Isis asked me about my eyeliner last week. I said I’ll do a post to list down what I use since the last time I did one was about a year ago. I use a really random mix lot so it’s mostly affordable and easily available for most people.

Here’s my list of what I’m using for my everyday face, in order of application:

1. MAC Studio Finish Concealer SPH 35FPS NC20

This has been my go-to concealer for a long time. It covers well and is in the right shade for me.

2. BAVIPHAT Secret Recipe BB Magic Girls PLUS BB CREAM Fresh for Oily Skin SPF30/PA++

I discovered this on my sister’s dresser and used it once. Fell in love with what it does for my skin and bought a tube for myself off eBay. I use this very sparingly and a small pea sized drop spreads easily to cover my entire face. I try not to use a foundation when I don’t need it. It gives my skin a chance to breathe and I do notice that as I get older, foundation can be unflattering as it accentuates my large pores and fine lines. But I do have uneven skin tone that’s starting to look sallow so at the very least, I need a BB cream to even it out.

3. MAC Select Sheer/Pressed powder NC 25

I’ve been using this for at least 10 years now and sometimes I do get darker when I stay out in the sun for a few days in a row but not enough for me to want to purchase a shade darker. Great coverage, matches my skin colour, yet doesn’t look too heavy for me. I love pressed powders for their convenience. I can’t be bothered with big brushes and loose powder even if people say it looks more “natural”. Because I don’t use foundation, I think it’s okay to be a little more heavy handed with a pressed powder.

4. BIOTHERM Play On Velvet Eye Shadow Perfect Wear 600

This was something that my sister didn’t want. It works for me and helps even out the darker colour around my eyes. Most times, it doesn’t even look like I have eye shadow on. Also, sometimes I make mistakes and smudge my eyeliner or make small stains with my mascara, I just go over the tainted area with a few strokes of this and it disappears. Or so I think.

5. SILKY GIRL Natural Brow Pencil 02 Dark Brown

My eyebrows are the ultimate crap. What’s with the hair on my head and my eyebrows? Years of torture plucking and one rather uneven eyebrow embroidery job has left me with sparse and uneven eyebrows. Luckily, I wear bangs and on most days, my eyebrow pencil does the job well enough that nobody notices. I like my brows darker as it frames my face and perks me up. I like the shade of this pencil, it’s easily available at the drugstores and it’s only a few bucks!

6. MAYBELLINE Hyper Sharp Liner

Easily the best eyeliner I’ve ever used. I’ve since bought over 10 of these! It’s like a firm felt marker with a fine tip. Very easy to use and highly pigmented. Be careful on the first 5-6 uses as it’s usually very wet and takes a while to dry.

7. MAYBELLINE The MAGNUM Volum’ Express Ultracomb Waterproof

All the black MAYBELLINE waterproof mascaras are good! I use them interchangeably especially when there is a discounted item. I like this because it’s a little comb and brushes out each eye lash.

8. MAC Well Dressed Satin Powder Blush

A light pink blush, none too overboard. I use this for day and tend to go for a dusky rose pink at night.

9. GUERLAIN Meteorites Perles Illuminating Powder – Pure Radiance 01 Teint Rose

Bought this last year at the airport duty free shop on my way back from Melbourne, Australia. It comes as a set of 2. This jar has green, white, yellow, purple and pink. The other jar which I left in Las Vegas, is mostly pink and white. I don’t know what the difference is honestly, but I use it everyday now. I swirl the brush into the jar of beads and then brush in rotating motion over my cheekbones just under my eyes, on the tip of my nose and chin. It seems to do the trick of deflecting light and making my skin less old in pictures. I notice how much more haggard and dull my skin is when I’m not using it.

10. BENEFIT Dandelion Ultra Plush lip gloss

This smells good and gives my lips this light dewy tint. Sometimes I just use it alone but most days this goes under my lipstick.

11. MAC CREMESHEEN Speed Dial

A creamy pink lipstick which is great everyday. For pictures though, I sometimes go over this colour with a deeper hot pink so that it would perk up my face. But otherwise Speed Dial is a great “natural” go to colour for me.

So what do you use? Is your everyday face as complicated? I spend about 10-12 minutes on my face – including toner and sunblock. Is that too long? How long do you take?

I really want to know why my hair has been so kinky lately. Is it because it’s grown too long?

My Stuff: Crazy Pink Lipstick Lady

I have been using crazy pink lippies for a long time now and whilst I often go for a nude look, when I do pink lipstick, I go all the way out! Hot Pink, fuchsia, neon pink, call it what you want. Here’s my expanded collection (thanks to my friends who gave me fab birthday pressies!)

20120930-083653.jpg

20120930-083700.jpg

(L to R) L’Oreal Color Riche 285 Pink Fever, Clarins Rouge Prodige 102 Pink Paradise, MAC Glaze Big Bow, Dior Addict High Shine 864 Sketch Pink, Estee Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick SIG 52 Brilliant Pink, MAC Satin Hollywood Nights, MAC Viva Glam Satin Nicki, MAC Satin Pink Nouveau, MAC Sheen Supreme Insanely It. I tried swatching and I’m not quite sure what to do. Anyway, I’m an NC25.

My sister gave me the MAC Hollywood Nights (from the Heatherette collection) a long time ago and I have been using it sparingly. It’s a gorgeous pink with purple undertones. The one that’s about to be gone is Big Bow from MAC’s Hello Kitty collection. I use it a lot because of the shimmer particles.

The ones that I use most often these days are L’Oreal Color Riche and the Clarins Rouge Prodige though they both leave lipstick prints all over my things (can get quite messy). But I have to say I still really love my Clarins one because Paradise Pink is such an awesome bubble-gum pink!

I think my least favourite is the Dior Addict one. Firstly, the packaging doesn’t stand. Secondly, it’s so light! I understand it’s supposed to be translucent but OMG… I have to coat it several times just to get colour.

Rydwan and Malcolm got me the MAC Insanely It! for my birthday and it’s really very creamy! My new favourite is a toss-up between that and Sian Eng’s gift of Estee Lauder’s Brilliant Pink. In terms of the texture and colour of Brilliant Pink it’s my absolute favourite amongst all but I don’t like the packaging. The gilded gold is too fancy for a common everyday office lady like me! HAHA!

Yesterday, I traded in my DBS credit card points for 2x$20 MAC vouchers to offset the cost of the Viva Glam Nicki and Pink Nouveau. I think I’m going to trade in my 6 empty MAC containers for another 1 later! Free lipsticks are great!

Rants & Raves: My CLARINS Haul

I’m raving about my CLARINS experience at the Raffles City Shopping Centre ROBINSONS today. I wasn’t really looking to buy anything but chanced upon CLARINS “Big Beautiful Eyes Pledge” on Facebook. By entering your particulars, you get invited to try some products out at your chosen CLARINS counter. I made my appointment at Raffles City because it was closest to work.

This experience didn’t start really well. I’m sure it’s partly because of how I look and dressed. To be fair, I didn’t identify myself and waited for the consultant to serve another 2 women before stepping up. The first thing I asked was about a gorgeously pink lipstick, then I passed her the printout (which you were supposed to bring to prove that you LIKED their page and signed up for the challenge). After clarifying, she explained that she could do it on my hand (which would be faster and simpler) or remove my make-up and try the products out on my face. I chose to try it out on my face because I have time anyways.

20120817-160148.jpg

I spent close to 1 hour and 30 minutes having my make-up removed, then getting the various products slathered on my face – including a mask. This allowed me to feel the products on my skin and see how they’re being used. It was full-on slather and not a half-hearted affair. During the trial, I asked questions because I was genuinely interested in the products as she was offering them to me. I got the feeling that she was more enthusiastic after I showed more interest. She wasn’t pushy and explained how the products were used, even answering my questions about some similar products I was already using from competitors like Shiseido.

20120817-160158.jpg

Anyway, long story short, I bought the lipstick (Rouge Prodige 102), Water Purify One-Step Cleanser, HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase and WHITE PLUS Whitening Velvet Emulsion with SPF20. I also received a full sized bottle of their Satin-Smooth Body Lotion with Sorbier Bud as well as a set of travel-sized skincare (toner, make-up remover, scrub etc) because they were having a promotion. Also, I was given a $50-off voucher to the Wheelock Place Clarins Spa once I was automatically made a member. AND because I spent over a certain amount, ROBINSONS gave me a $20 voucher (which the cashier promptly used to deduct from the total cost). In the end, I spent only $259 on everything!

I know it’s a little more spendy that I usually am (partly because I’m a bargain hunter and I am skint) but I think today’s haul is a fantastic deal! For those products that I was unsure of, I was given a suitable stash of samples to try. The consultant also indicated in a product guide, which ones to use, when (including the samples). I am impressed because this gives me an idea of what my entire skincare routine would entail and whether or not the extra products will benefit me.

20120817-160214.jpg

The beauty consultant that serviced me was Janice Han and I’m very happy with today’s CLARINS haul and experience (much better than what I can say for a certain SK-II counter where I was told I needed every product under the sun because I had really bad skin, then refused to give me more than 2 sample sachets to try out the products). I’m sure I lucked out with the triple-bonus and after today, I don’t think I’ll ever bring home that many  CLARINS products for $259. But then again, if they work, I don’t think I’ll be that worried because I know that I can try out the products adequately before I plonk down the moolah.

So does this count as a haul?

My Stuff: New Beauty-related purchases

Drugstores, beauty shops, make-up counters… I know I’m not the only one. It’s not an addiction. It’s a birth right. The prerogative of being a woman.

The Paul & Joe were from aLT in The Heeren Shops; the MAC stuff from the awesome TANGS Plaza store and the rest from SASA in Marina Square.

October Beauty Buys
October Beauty Buys

1. CETTUA My Bright Face Mate Brightening Patch

– I’ve tried these and I love them because they stick to your face so you can move around.

2. CLARUS Anti Wrinkle Bio Cellulose Eye Patches

– It apparently reduces fine lines & wrinkles, leaves skin around eyes moisturized and tightened. I use a lot of these pre-moistened masks & eye patch things because they are convenient.

3. MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder NC 25

– I swear by this powder for touch-ups. Blends in great with my skin tone and while is sheer, gives great coverage (oxymoron, yes).

4. MAC Studio Tech Foundation NC 25

– I haven’t tried this yet but in the store, the cream to powder foundation literally just melted into my skin. LOVE!

5. PAUL & JOE Face Color (no. 12)

– I previously used no. 06 but this tawny shade was lovely when the aLT counter girl gave me a mini-makeover. Had to buy it.

6. PAUL & JOE Lipstick (no. 17)

– I seldom wear lipstick. Usually just a sheer tint or lipgloss. I want to say it’s an impulse buy but it’s so natural on me I ❤ it!

So what did you buy recently?
