This pineapple-print skirt has been worn only a handful of times since I bought it. I’m thinking of doing a clear-out sale on eBay to sell some of my things – maybe about 20-25 items. I have a lot of clothes that I don’t wear as much, and are no longer suitable for my lifestyle. $5 and $10 items – clothes and accessories. Maybe. I’m not sure yet. But if I do, this pineapple skirt should go because I think someone else would use it more often than I do. Also, I could use some shopping money for winter clothes.

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Grey tank top from OLD NAVY

Outerwear: Pink 3/4 sleeve cardigan from WAREHOUSE

Accessories: Rainbow-coloured felt button necklace from MIAOW & SQUEAK; Natural bamboo weave bangle from THE ISLAND SHOP

Bag: White pleather bag with pink bow and black accents from BETSEY JOHNSON

Footwear: Black gladiator wedges from KENNETH COLE REACTION

IMG_5961I think we’re seeing the last of these shorts for a while. Okay, maybe a week or so because it’s still so hot out. This striped peplum top however, I think have been surprisingly versatile! I’ve worn it with jeans and with a hi-lo skirt – both of which I really liked. This combination appears to be a keeper too!

IMG_5959I guess the last 20 posts are probably good testament to the fact that imagination is key to maximising your wardrobe. How many times have you seen me wearing the same pair of shoes, the same jacket, the same pair of bottoms, the same top?

T and I share just 1 wardrobe. We take an equal amount of space with regards to apparel. I do have more accessories and bags but I don’t necessarily have a large winter collection since I came from the tropics. How I’ve been coping is just by layering when it gets colder.

I love switching things around and I don’t need everything to be matchy-matchy. Neither am I afraid of saying that I just don’t have the money to spend on expensive things. I’m okay with mixing and matching off-season bargains if I have to.

Will I shop differently if I have more disposable income – maybe, possibly? But my priorities right now is our nest egg and to be completely debt free before I’ll splurge on clothes, bags and shoes. You know, boring things like paying off our mortgage and servicing the car loan, also rebuilding our savings to a 6-month contingency level etc. We were wiped out when Max was stricken with cancer last year…

Anyway, the whole point of this blog is frivolity, so don’t take it too seriously and have fun with what you already own. (uhmm… and pay off your credit card debts monthly!)

IMG_5980A few weeks ago, my friend Evelyn of The Bottomsup Blog asked over Facebook chat if I spend time planning my outfits or I naturally just know what goes with what. I don’t. I don’t really spend time picking things out and neither do I know what to wear. Sometimes I throw it together and it doesn’t look as I imagined but I just deal with it. Today’s outfit is somewhat like that.  I’ll change out of something if I’m uncomfortable though. Other than that, it doesn’t bother me and that’s my style philosophy if one can call it that.

I wore this to get ice cream with T. We have a Cold Stone Creamery about a 10-minute drive from us and it’s in the same plaza as the supermarket I usually go to and it also excites me to say that it houses a 24hr Subway (though T was commenting about the dubious freshness of their bread at 3am).

IMG_5981What I’m wearing today:

Top: Black tee from Singapore Thrash-metal band Ossuary

Accessories: Blue, yellow & black bib style necklace from MYBEAD88 on eBay; Brown cat-eye shades from RAY BAN; Black pleather belt with silver buckle from H&M

Bag: Grey studs and skulls cross body bag from GORGEOUSLAND on eBay

Bottoms: Light blue cuffed denim shorts from OLD NAVY

IMG_5803That’s a Christmas ornament I haven’t put away yet. In my defence, I’ve tidied up the rest of the garage and stored all our other holiday decorations in a nice big box. This glittery silver star was on the sideboard in our bedroom next to my accessories trees and I just forgot.

A side note about our Christmas decor – since T and I got to start this tradition together and he’s never had a tree prior to the one we got last year, I decided that ALL the ornaments on our tree will come with a story. This was a gift from his Step Mom Mama Judy that she literally took off from her tree, his Aunt Kathy gave us a silver one that read “Our 1st Christmas together”, there were 2 glass baubles we bought together at Cactus Joe’s, and one that T bought as a Christmas gift for me that had our names and said “Just Married”. That’s all we have for now but we’ll grow into our collection…

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Cream Aki Goth Mini dress from HELL BUNNY (I got this from Sirens & Starlets)

Accessories: Black & grey mirrored acrylic necklace from THE BLACKGROUND

Footwear: Black gladiator wedges from KENNETH COLE REACTION

IMG_5801This is one of my first 2 HELL BUNNY dresses. I bought this in November 2012 when my friends and I flew to Melbourne, Australia to catch Radiohead. I’m not sure if this is true but it is said that RADIOHEAD will never play in Singapore because there are no human rights protection laws there. So instead of taking the risk of never ever seeing them LIVE, my friends and I decided a group holiday was long overdue anyway. It was super fun! 8 of us in a rental apartment in the heart of Chinatown. Before life got to us (work, marriage, family, children etc), we met every weekend at the same places. You didn’t even have to call. You just turn up and at least a few people from the gang would be at 1 of 2 hangouts. I use the term gang loosely because there are over 20 people in our group, some of whom no longer lived in Singapore – and now there’s me. We are now just a secret Facebook group. I’m glad we’re still connected though.

You know kids, life changes so quickly and even if you don’t think you will, YOU WILL. So enjoy today while being responsible for your tomorrow – you want both financial security and your nest eggs of adventures. You don’t want to be one of those lonely old rich people who are just full of what-ifs and I-should-haves. Money can only buy you that much happiness. There’s no turning back the clocks. Don’t be afraid to live what little you have. I have lots of stupid hijinks stories and crazy travel tales that would fuel my old age because… you know, I was really top notch at making bad decisions and naively fearless of the unknown. Heh heh heh… Ask me and maybe I’ll tell you in private.

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Black ruffle “Margot Floral” dress with pink/purple prints from HELL BUNNY (bought at Off Ya Tree)

Accessories: Mint green ombre bead layered necklace from FOREVER21

Outerwear: Silver 3/4 sleeve mini cardigan from DELIA*S

Footwear: Black gladiator wedges from KENNETH COLE REACTION

As you can tell, this is statement necklace is my Accessory Du Jour. It’s just so fun and easy to throw on almost everything I own. I got it at the FOSSIL outlet store at Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas in Primm Valley for only USD15 last year!

As you can tell, I love bright colours. I am making up for lost time since I spent most of my 20s in dark coloured clothes (and vertical stripes). Given that I spent 5 years as a school teacher, I felt like it was part of the job description that I dress more “sensibly” and less “flashy”. Needless to say, I wasted my youth pretending to be an old lady.

I’m going to be 40 in 4 years and even if age is just a number, damn Mother Nature and gravity doesn’t know that. I fear the day when I get too saggy to enjoy myself anymore… HAHHAHAHA!!! So the time is NOW! People, hear me. THE TIME IS NOW! Regardless of your insecurities. It WILL eventually go downhill and you don’t want to wait for that day to come before regretting everything you didn’t do.

This is the perfect example of how accessorizing actually takes a very plain outfit from uh..it’s okay to hey put together! It’s a simple roundneck  t-shirt dress with sleeves and nothing more. You throw it on, put on a pair of rubber slippers or flipflops, and you deal with it. OR you could put on a statement necklace and a bangle to add details.

My main problem is that if I wear it plain, you can see very obviously that I have no hips. I am quite apple-shaped and the roundness of my belly stands out. I could put on some shapewear to conceal it or I could have some fun with accessorizing. So that’s that.

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Red t-shirt dress from OLD NAVY

Accessories: Black & grey mirrored acrylic necklace from THE BLACKGROUNDBlack bow ring from ACCESSORIZE; Natural bamboo weave bangle from THE ISLAND SHOP

Bag: Grey bag with leatherette bow from BERSHKA

Footwear: Black gladiator wedges from KENNETH COLE REACTION
