So last night, we drove to Culver City, California to be part of the IndieXchange Summit (an off-site event of IndieCade) and spent the night at TravelLodge (where these photos were taken).

Today, I basically spent my time chatting with other indie game makers, giving out T’s cards while he showcased his game Axiom Verge and playing CandyCrush while he attends the talks and meetings.

I’ve been to many festivals over the last 7 years (in my capacity as a delegate) for work. This is the first time just observing and just getting clued in. It’s amazing! From indie music to indie games!

Anyway, this is what I wore today:

Top: Grey NEW YORK DOLLS tank dress from eBay

Outerwear: Purple boyfriend cardigan from DELIAS

Accessories: Silver iPod nano watch and grey iWatchz strap

Bottoms: Galaxy-print footless tights from eBay

Footwear: Sparkly pink elastic lace sneakers from CONVERSE

Today we took a bus from the Monroe Park & Ride to New York City itself. The journey took about 90 minutes and we alighted at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

We were on a budget so we mostly did free things like walk down Times Square, 5th Avenue and also Central Park. I did my next NYAW feature photo shoot and we also met up with T’s cousins for dinner.

It was a beautiful day and warm outside so this is what I wore:

Top: Black & white polka dotted top from UNIQLO X LULU GUINNESS

Accessories: Orange polka dotted hair bow from thestreetsofbangkok

Bottom: Black skater skirt from TOPSHOP

Leggings: Black polka dotted leggings from DOROTHY PERKINS

Footwear: Black slouchy wide calf boots from REPORT (on Amazon)

Hello from Nanuet, New York! I’m at T’s Grammy’s house and standing in the garden that his mom just planted this summer!

It’s a nice day out and about 20degC! I’m wearing something really light and that’s an unlined coat – just nice for the beginnings of Autumn (it’s going to take a while before I say Fall).

Anyway….

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Purple/Pink/Black floral print dress from DOROTHY PERKINS

Outerwear: Beige baby-doll long coat from DELIAS

Accessories: Purple stretchy belt with gold buckle (came with the dress) from DOROTHY PERKINS; Coral floral hairpin from ACCESSORIZE

Bag: Black kiss-clasp purse from PAIL FRANK

Footwear: Purple ballet flats with bow from OLD NAVY

Pictures by T – I think he’s getting better!

20130830-102208.jpgHello hello! I’m back with the outfit posts! Hopefully I will get this thing started again. I blame it on the holiday mood right now. I’ve been sleeping in and generally just in shorts & t-shirt while pottering around the house. Today though, T and I went out to get the rental car for our roadtrip tomorrow to Arizona. We’re visiting his Dad and Step-Mom there. So yes, this is the outfit I wore to rent a car.

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Red & white floral dress from NEW LOOK

Accessories: Red floral hair clip from ACCESSORIZE; Gold weave pleather belt from H&M

Bag: Grey clutch with studs and chain strap from BERSHKA

Footwear: Black hidden wedge pumps from ZIPIA

Pictures by T in our yard. I’m not sure why I’m so red. Is it the reflection from the surroundings? Or is my iPhone 4 crapping on me??

20130830-102216.jpg

20130830-102224.jpgMax kept wanting to get in the picture so T took a photo of him. Heehee… Max the Maximum Dog is a good boy. He keeps me company throughout the day. Today, we have made the 2nd floor our base and his choice spot is the balcony for sunning himself. It rained earlier, so the outside is kinda wet (and cool). I love it when it rains (regardless of whether in Singapore or Las Vegas or London). I love the smell of rain, the pitter-patter of raindrops, I love the humidity (except when it’s muggy in Singapore) and I love how the temperature drops… Zzzzz…

20130830-102237.jpg

20130830-102243.jpgThat’s the red FORD Taurus that we rented. Parked it across from our house because T’s Corvette was in the garage and we’re next to the fire hydrant so we aren’t allowed to park or block the passage. Anyway, the place we rented it from is called Enterprise Rent-A-Car and they have a pick-up service which is cool. They send someone to your house to pick you up and send you to the rental office. The entire process took less than 20 mins – checking my drivers’ license to payment, to checking the car for damages before handing over, signing forms etc. Easy peasy! Can’t wait till tomorrow! We aim to leave the house at about 6am and hopefully reach our destination by lunch! I’m excited! I haven’t been to Arizona and I really want to go to Amy’s Baking Company (the crazy Facebook meltdown following Chef Gordon Ramsey quitting on them is AMAZING). T says he doesn’t want to waste his time there but I thought it’d be funny you know? Just to see if it is true.

In other news, I’ve officially driven a car in 5 different countries – Singapore, Malaysia, England, Australia and now the USA! While I took my driving test using a manual car (it was then compulsory in Singapore), I don’t think I can operate a stick shift anymore. The last time I did, was several years ago at Tamares’ wedding in England. I drove the bridal car. To say “drive” is pushing the definition. I couldn’t find the biting point and had problems shifting gears. It was horrifying how many times the car stalled. Lucky for us, we weren’t in Central London but peacefully quiet Oxfordshire. T wants me to drive him home from his eye surgery in 2 weeks’ time and I fear his car. Firstly, it’s a sports car. Secondly, it’s manual transmission… EEEKS!! Stay tuned, folks!

Hey after 500 outfits posts I’m still here and guess what? I’m still fat! I do feel somewhat fitter and healthier these days though. Since I’ve started the blog, I’ve been more conscious about staying upbeat and happy – frivolity is so underrated these days. These random outfit posts have served as an outlet to express… uhm I have no idea what but it makes me so lah dee dah happy just doing it. Also, the Not Your Average Women shoots I do on my little iPhone at the interviewee’s homes are still inspiring me. I’ve quit smoking, drinking and am a vegetarian (in general… I wouldn’t reject a broth made with meat if you slaved over it and served it to me at your home or pick out bits of bacon out of a salad lovingly made just for me. I just won’t consume flesh when I have a choice.) AND… here’s the thing… I turn 35 in exactly 1 month! Yup so this is 35. Take a look, feel free to gawk.

When I was growing up, 35 meant tight short curly hair, bright red lipstick, 3 kids, a husband, 2 family cars, a mountain of bills, and no social life. Guess I kinda-sorta hit some of those “targets”. *koffkoff* Life has been kind. I’ve been blessed with so many trustworthy close friends that if in a pinch and I need to delete a porn stash (if any… no really there aren’t and this is where it gets boring right?), I can count on them not to judge me. Also I have my family (and the would-be new family stateside). My career has been exciting and I’ve loved my work as well as enjoyed the company of my colleagues. In fact, I look forward to socialising at work everyday. Best of all, I’ve never had a boss or superior I didn’t like. I feel like I’ve been riding on a high, especially with my current job.

Yes life has been good and it’s getting better, especially with T. But if you wish to help make my life more beautiful, please head over to my Amazon Wishlist and buy me something for my birthday (or save the link for Christmas, maybe?). You have a month to save up and plan (I do tweak it every so often so don’t buy just yet.) I thank you from the bottom of my heart in advance. Much love. Heh.

Anyhooos… here’s the outfit I’m wearing to commemorate my 500th post (actually it’s what I wore to work today. HEH):

Top: Black/White polka dot top from UNIQLO x Lulu Guinness

Bottom: Black custom tea length tulle skirt from MTcoffinzUnderground on etsy.com

Accessories: Black straw weave belt with gold shell buckle from FRENCH CONNECTION; Handmade paper heart “Once Upon A Time” brooch from Lost In The Forest on etsy

Footwear: Black ASHIKA SCOOPED BALLET flats from ROCKPORT

My Stuff: Everyday Make-Up July 2013

20130714-111743.jpg

This is what I use on an average day for my make-up, no make-up look. Yeah it looks like I use a lot of stuff just to make myself look clean-faced with minimal make-up. It’s true. And under the cosmetics, I have my toner and sunblock too!

So this came up because my pal Isis asked me about my eyeliner last week. I said I’ll do a post to list down what I use since the last time I did one was about a year ago. I use a really random mix lot so it’s mostly affordable and easily available for most people.

Here’s my list of what I’m using for my everyday face, in order of application:

1. MAC Studio Finish Concealer SPH 35FPS NC20

This has been my go-to concealer for a long time. It covers well and is in the right shade for me.

2. BAVIPHAT Secret Recipe BB Magic Girls PLUS BB CREAM Fresh for Oily Skin SPF30/PA++

I discovered this on my sister’s dresser and used it once. Fell in love with what it does for my skin and bought a tube for myself off eBay. I use this very sparingly and a small pea sized drop spreads easily to cover my entire face. I try not to use a foundation when I don’t need it. It gives my skin a chance to breathe and I do notice that as I get older, foundation can be unflattering as it accentuates my large pores and fine lines. But I do have uneven skin tone that’s starting to look sallow so at the very least, I need a BB cream to even it out.

3. MAC Select Sheer/Pressed powder NC 25

I’ve been using this for at least 10 years now and sometimes I do get darker when I stay out in the sun for a few days in a row but not enough for me to want to purchase a shade darker. Great coverage, matches my skin colour, yet doesn’t look too heavy for me. I love pressed powders for their convenience. I can’t be bothered with big brushes and loose powder even if people say it looks more “natural”. Because I don’t use foundation, I think it’s okay to be a little more heavy handed with a pressed powder.

4. BIOTHERM Play On Velvet Eye Shadow Perfect Wear 600

This was something that my sister didn’t want. It works for me and helps even out the darker colour around my eyes. Most times, it doesn’t even look like I have eye shadow on. Also, sometimes I make mistakes and smudge my eyeliner or make small stains with my mascara, I just go over the tainted area with a few strokes of this and it disappears. Or so I think.

5. SILKY GIRL Natural Brow Pencil 02 Dark Brown

My eyebrows are the ultimate crap. What’s with the hair on my head and my eyebrows? Years of torture plucking and one rather uneven eyebrow embroidery job has left me with sparse and uneven eyebrows. Luckily, I wear bangs and on most days, my eyebrow pencil does the job well enough that nobody notices. I like my brows darker as it frames my face and perks me up. I like the shade of this pencil, it’s easily available at the drugstores and it’s only a few bucks!

6. MAYBELLINE Hyper Sharp Liner

Easily the best eyeliner I’ve ever used. I’ve since bought over 10 of these! It’s like a firm felt marker with a fine tip. Very easy to use and highly pigmented. Be careful on the first 5-6 uses as it’s usually very wet and takes a while to dry.

7. MAYBELLINE The MAGNUM Volum’ Express Ultracomb Waterproof

All the black MAYBELLINE waterproof mascaras are good! I use them interchangeably especially when there is a discounted item. I like this because it’s a little comb and brushes out each eye lash.

8. MAC Well Dressed Satin Powder Blush

A light pink blush, none too overboard. I use this for day and tend to go for a dusky rose pink at night.

9. GUERLAIN Meteorites Perles Illuminating Powder – Pure Radiance 01 Teint Rose

Bought this last year at the airport duty free shop on my way back from Melbourne, Australia. It comes as a set of 2. This jar has green, white, yellow, purple and pink. The other jar which I left in Las Vegas, is mostly pink and white. I don’t know what the difference is honestly, but I use it everyday now. I swirl the brush into the jar of beads and then brush in rotating motion over my cheekbones just under my eyes, on the tip of my nose and chin. It seems to do the trick of deflecting light and making my skin less old in pictures. I notice how much more haggard and dull my skin is when I’m not using it.

10. BENEFIT Dandelion Ultra Plush lip gloss

This smells good and gives my lips this light dewy tint. Sometimes I just use it alone but most days this goes under my lipstick.

11. MAC CREMESHEEN Speed Dial

A creamy pink lipstick which is great everyday. For pictures though, I sometimes go over this colour with a deeper hot pink so that it would perk up my face. But otherwise Speed Dial is a great “natural” go to colour for me.

So what do you use? Is your everyday face as complicated? I spend about 10-12 minutes on my face – including toner and sunblock. Is that too long? How long do you take?

This is a new top. I bought it yesterday and I haven’t washed it. I love it so much I had to wear it today! I know, I know… I’m supposed to be clearing my things and stop with the buying until my wardrobe is of acceptable size but I was weak. I went out shopping for gifts for T’s relatives and my friend Glenn’s birthday but I ended up spending about S$106 on myself. This top (S$24.90) and two necklaces from ACCESSORIZE (S$80.80). This just means that I’m gonna have to do another wardrobe clear out in the next few weeks. Heh… Give me 2 weeks to decide what I can part with… Heehee! I could definitely use some extra $$$

Anyway, I’ve been told that today’s get-up is quite unusual for me and I look more casual than on normal days. What can I say? I love this top a little too much to care! Also, it was raining when I left the house today!

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Light blue Little Twin Stars 3/4 jersey from UNIQLO x SANRIO

Accessories: Navy hair bow from a swop meet; Pink ear studs from GRER (gift from Felix); Black calculator watch from CASIO

Bottoms: Navy jeans from RIVER ISLAND

Footwear: Mint ARIEL ballet flats from Le Bunny Bleu

A Vintage Tea Party – HOUSE @ Dempsey

My SPArty pals and I went to HOUSE @ Dempsey yesterday for their Vintage Tea Party which happens every Thursday and Friday, 3 to 5.30pm. Dempsey is one of those areas in Singapore I don’t visit often. Too inconvenient for me if I’m not driving. I love the company of my friends and especially my gal pals, so exploring new eateries is always fun when you have the right company.

When we were there, it seemed like many others had the same idea too. It was practically full and the buffet line was constantly crowded. The patrons were a diverse lot. Some were like us – gal pals gathering and gossiping (but a wide age range as there were groups of older ladies in their 50s-60s and some younger girls who looked like they were in their early to mid-20s), there were also couples, at least 2 tables with push-prams and babies, as well as some smaller all-male tables too.

20130712-154826.jpg

There was good spread of savouries and sweets. I would have loved to have a few more savoury vegetarian options though the truffle mushrooms and cheese platter were yummy. Good thing for me, I love sweets – chocolate cupcakes, cookies, puddings, cheesecakes – bring them all on! For S$22++ per person, I’d say it’s pretty good. I give it a 7.5/10 for ambience, comfort and the tasty options!

Verdict from my friends:

Pixiedub 8/10 “Everything I ate was really yummy! From the burgers to the cakes…”

Cherry 8/10 “I wish there was a wider variety of teas.”

Linda 9/10 “I just wish there was better service.”

Lil Nat 9/10 (actually secretly 10/10 but she didn’t want to look too enthusiastic) “I LOVE CHEEEEESE!”

It’s Friday! The weeks are just zooming by so quickly! Where did the time go?? I know what I’m doing with my time today though! I’ve taken half the day off to hang out with my gal pals aka The SPArty Girls! We’re going to HOUSE @ Dempsey for their Vintage High Tea. I read a bunch of reviews and blog posts… TOTALLY SOLD! See here, here and here. I hope we have a lovely time later today. I might share some pictures in my next post… if I remember. There’s a possibility that I would get so distracted and greedy that I’ll totally forget to document the afternoon!

In other news, I am looking to revamp my blog after using free WordPress templates since Day 1. I have some ideas of what I want to have on it and the ideal layout but T hasn’t been able to get that going even though he tried. I’ve looked at some premade templates on Etsy that I liked but weren’t exactly what I have in mind. Also, many of the premade templates don’t work with my free wordpress account and I have to get a self-hosted one or works only on blogspot. I want a 3 column layout (2 sidebars) with a customized photo header that changes, and a clickable custom image link menu under that. Any ideas or suggestions? Some examples of what I like are THIS, THIS, THIS and THIS.

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Black bra tank top from UNIQLO

Bottom: Mint swing skirt and Peach Meringue petticoat from DOMINO DOLLHOUSE

Accessories: Stack of 4 plastic bangles from PRIMARK; Purple stretch belt (free with DOROTHY PERKINS dress); Orange polka-dotted hair bow from thestreetsofbangkok; Black & grey mirrored acrylic necklace from THE BLACKGROUND (at Far East Plaza)

Footwear: Brown Kandy Oxfords from Le Bunny Bleu (at Bugis+)

20130712-091938.jpg

How cute are my shoes???!! I love love love them so much! Comfort and chic are the most important thing especially if you’re gonna be on your feet all day! There were 3 different colour combinations and I couldn’t decide which one so I picked the one I felt I could match with the most number of outfits. I wish I had them all! In fact, I want all the Le Bunny Bleu shoes I saw!! These KANDY OXFORDS are currently retailing for SGD83 but ask for the wastedfashion discount and pay only SGD74.70!

20130712-091929.jpg

Had a nice 3-day weekend as I had taken the day off yesterday. I feel warm and fuzzy all over because I’ve been spending a lot of time with friends. After the Singapore Blog Awards on Saturday, Nat Pixiedub and I went shopping. On Sunday, we had a potluck for lunch with the extended family because my cousin Dawn is back from Hong Kong with her boyfriend Nico for a visit. Afterwards, I spent the entire afternoon till evening at Noel and Stella’s house, playing with their daughter Kate and talking endlessly about random topics with Joe, Little, Joanne, Jay, Nat Pixiedub, Cherry and Jon. And yesterday, I visited Jayne and Edwin’s house to see their newborn Jude. Followed by lunch at i12Katong with Wai Peng and 2-month old Naomi!

And today I return to work with a new hairdo! Honestly speaking, I was a little worried when the perming tools were removed and I saw crazy tight ringlets not unlike Shirley Temple. Thankfully though they loosened after being released and washed out. It’s a new look and I’m still getting used to it. I like that it looks shinier and feels softer than it used to. I guess digital perms don’t destroy your hair like regular ones do. What do you think?

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Black tube high-low dress from NEW LOOK

Accessories: Pink floral hair band from ASOS; Black calculator watch from CASIO

Outerwear: Red/blue plaid shirt from H&M

Footwear: Black ASHIKA SCOOPED BALLET flats from ROCKPORT
