This is one of 2 chinoiserie dresses that I own and I hardly ever take them out even I’ve had them both for several years now. The thing with these figure-grazing dresses is that I have to find good days to wear them (i.e. no PMS bloating or buffets). Chinese women are usually so slender that it’s almost impossible to be fat and look good in traditional costume. Luckily this isn’t really one of those made-in-china for Chinese women type dresses. I do sometimes wish I can buy off-the-rack cheongsams but I know even if I find one in my size, I don’t have the right shape to carry off the image that I want (in my head).

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Burgundy Wine Red Mini Dress with Black Lace & Bow from PATRICIA VALERY on etsy

Bag: Black kiss-clasp purse from PAUL FRANK

Footwear: Black wedge pumps from ZIPIA

  1. I always love chinoiserie dresses too!! But they don’t work for my figure (having a 9 inch difference between my waist and hips!) but this one is really lovely and I think I could pull it off. Maybe I should make a stretch chinoiserie with lace insert like yours!
