I am officially crazy about crocheting! On Sunday, 7 Oct, I got up at 5.30am to attempt a chunky yarn hat with a brim and in 3 hours, I completed it with some help from a YouTube tutorial and a lot of improvisation. Up till then, I have only been crocheting nonsense and half-arsed projects that haven’t been completed. The hat, now dubbed “The Giant Strawberry”, is my first fully completed crochet item that has a real purpose.
I stitched on the funniest little white plastic octopus I found at a beading store in Chinatown. When I saw it, I burst out laughing and knew I had to have it. Cats, dogs, bunnies, butterflies and a whole host of other animals are commonplace. An octopus however, is hilarious and such a cute little piece!
What do you think?
Here are some of my other half-arsed creations… Trying to complete a scarf, 2 beanies, 2 blankets and some brooches in time for Christmas 2012!
Look at my crocheting tools! I have hooks of many sizes now! I started with the gold one (6mm) that costs only S$1.50 and gradually bought the rest! Now I have 3.5mm, 4mm, 5mm and 10mm!
I’m so obsessed with crocheting lately that the only time I stop is when my RA acts up! I give it a complete rest for an extra day or 2 after the pain/swelling goes down. Whenever possible, I crochet with special pressure gloves (the fingerless type) and with therapeutic magnets on my hands.
So if you’re also into crocheting and you’re on Ravelry… I’m there too! Add me as a friend. http://www.ravelry.com/people/wastedfashion
